Title 1 Information: 

Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESEA), provides financial assistance to local educational agencies for children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.

The Maritime Academy of Toledo offers Free and Reduced Lunch for all qualifying students.

Who qualifies for free or reduced breakfast and lunch? 

Children in households receiving Food Stamps or Ohio Works First (OWF) and most foster children are eligible for free meals regardless of income. Also, children can receive free meals if the household income is within the allowable limits on the Federal Income Guidelines.

Title 2 Information:

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is the most recent reauthorization of the 1965 act that establishes the federal government’s role in education. Under ESSA, Title II authorizes programs to improve teaching and leadership through professional learning at the state and district levels.


Title 3 Information: 

The purpose of Title III is to help ensure that English learners, including immigrant children and youth, attain English proficiency and develop high levels of academic achievement and assist teachers (including preschool teachers), administrators, and other school leaders in developing and enhancing their capacity to provide effective instructional programs.

Note: The Maritime Academy of Toledo does not recieve Title 3 Funds. 


Title 4 Information:

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed into law in December 2015. It reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). Newly authorized under subpart 1 of Title IV, Part A of the ESEA is the Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) program. The SSAE program is intended to improve students’ academic achievement by increasing the capacity of State educational agencies (SEAs), local educational agencies (LEAs), and local communities to provide all students with access to a well-rounded education; improve school conditions for student learning; and improve the use of technology to improve the academic achievement and digital literacy of all students.


Title 9 Information:

Title IX, clause of the 1972 Federal Education Amendments, signed into law on June 23, 1972, which stated that “no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

IDEA Part B

Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) provides funds to the Ohio Department of Education and through them to local educational agencies (LEAs), like the Maritime Academy of Toledo, to help them ensure that children with disabilities, including children aged three through five, have access to a free appropriate public education to meet each child’s unique needs and prepare each child for further education, employment, and independent living.
