The Maritime Academy at a Glance

The Maritime Academy of Toledo is a tuition-free public charter school founded with a mission to provide Toledo’s youth and families with rigorous academic pathways to college and careers through a personalized learning experience. What began in 2006 as an effort to introduce inner-city students to recreational boating on the Maumee River and Lake Erie has grown into a nationally recognized, maritime-focused program. The Academy has been acknowledged by leading institutions, including the Department of Transportation, the Department of Defense, and the U.S. Coast Guard, and is part of a national coalition of maritime schools shaping innovative, real-world learning experiences. Through this work, the Academy has helped develop a comprehensive maritime curriculum used across the country, ensuring students receive both strong academics and meaningful career-connected exposure.
