College & Career Readiness
"Your Future Starts at Maritime."
At The Maritime Academy of Toledo, we believe college and career readiness begins long before senior year. From the moment a student enters Maritime in 6th grade, we begin helping students discover who they are, what they are capable of, and where their education can take them.
Our goal is simple: every Mariner should leave Maritime with a high school diploma, meaningful experiences, and a clear plan for what comes next.
Throughout grades 6–12, students are intentionally exposed to colleges, careers, community service, leadership opportunities, and real-world experiences that help them connect what they are learning in the classroom to their future. As students' progress through middle and high school, they will explore different careers, learn about college and training opportunities, participate in community and service experiences, and begin building the academic, professional, and personal skills needed for life after graduation.
Know Your Destination. Chart Your Course.
Maritime students are expected to understand their graduation requirements and take ownership of their progress. High school students work toward the credits, competencies, seals, and experiences required for graduation, while exploring multiple pathways, including college preparation and Career-Technical Education opportunities in Culinary Arts, Maritime Occupations, and Marine Environmental Science.
But we don't want students waiting until their senior year to decide what comes next.
Each year at Maritime, we want every student to be able to declare a college and/or career pathway at Decision Day.
That pathway may change as students learn more about themselves and their opportunities and that's okay. Decision Day is about setting a direction, making a plan, and beginning to take the next steps toward the future.
Families Have a Partner Along the Way
Our College & Career Advisor, Mrs. Gentry Willis, is a primary resource for students and families throughout this journey. She helps families navigate graduation requirements, scholarships, grants, financial aid, College Credit Plus, college admissions, career opportunities, credentials, and postsecondary options.
Families should think of Mrs. Willis as a partner from middle school through graduation, not just someone students meet during senior year.
Whether your Mariner dreams of attending a four-year university, earning a college degree or credential, entering a skilled career, joining the maritime industry, serving in the military, becoming an entrepreneur, or pursuing another path, we want to help your child discover the possibilities and create a plan to get there.
