The Board recognizes that students possess not only the right to an education but the rights of citizenship as well. In granting students the education to which they are entitled, the Board shall provide them with the nurture, counsel, and custodial care appropriate to their age and maturity. At the same time, no student shall be deprived of the basic right to equal treatment and equal access to the educational program, due process, a presumption of innocence, free expression and association, and the privacy of his/her own thoughts.
Attendant upon the rights guaranteed to each cadet are certain responsibilities, which include respect for the rights of others, obedience to properly constituted School authority, and compliance with the rules and regulations of the School. The Board realizes that as cadets differ in age and maturity, so they differ in ability to handle both the rights of citizens and the concomitant responsibilities.
The exercise of each right shall be granted, therefore, with due regard for the degree of responsibility possessed by the cadet and the cadet's need for the continuing guidance and control of those responsible for his/her education. Nothing in this statement of cadet rights shall be held to limit the due process rights of educators or classified school personnel nor their use of the district grievance procedure.
Technology Policies
Technology & Electronic Device Use
The Maritime Academy of Toledo takes the responsible use of technology and electronic devices seriously. Technology plays an important role in today’s learning environment and, when used appropriately, enhances instruction, communication, and student engagement. However, misuse of technology, internet access, or personal electronic devices can disrupt learning and negatively impact students, classrooms, and the school community as a whole.
To ensure a safe, focused, and productive learning environment, the Academy has established policies regarding Technology and Internet Acceptable Use, Electronic Communication Devices, and Student Cellular Phones in School. Families and students are expected to review these policies carefully and understand the expectations, responsibilities, and consequences related to technology use while on campus or using school-provided systems.
