Position Summary

The Business Manager at The Maritime Academy of Toledo ensures smooth and compliant operation of school business and administrative affairs. Reporting to the Superintendent and collaborating with the Board and Treasurer, this full-time role oversees budgeting, facilities, operations, and risk, upholding high financial integrity while enabling TMAT’s mission-driven maritime education.


Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategic Participation:
  • Serve as a key member of TMAT’s leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and resource alignment.
  • Support policy development, implementation, and compliance with Ohio Revised Code and ODE guidelines.
  • Provide ongoing analysis of financial stability, facilities planning, and operational capacity.
Financial Management:
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the annual operating budget in collaboration with school leadership.
  • Oversee accounts payable/receivable, payroll coordination, purchasing, and procurement processes.
  • Ensure compliance with Ohio school finance laws, public sector bidding requirements, and federal/state grant regulations.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports for the Superintendent, Board, auditors, and ODE.
Operations & Facilities Oversight:
  • Manage building operations, maintenance schedules, and vendor contracts to ensure safe and efficient facilities.
  • Supervise custodial, food service, and non-instructional support staff.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for transportation, capital improvements, and facility upgrades.
Risk Management & Safety:
  • Maintain appropriate insurance policies for liability, workers’ compensation, and property coverage.
  • Develop and implement risk management practices, emergency protocols, and safety drills in compliance with local/state regulations.
  • Ensure proper record-keeping and documentation for compliance and audit readiness.
Communication & Collaboration:
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the school and external stakeholders regarding business operations.
  • Communicate financial updates and facility status clearly to the Superintendent, Board, staff, and community partners.
  • Work with auditors, regulators, vendors, and contractors to ensure accountability and transparency.
Professionalism & Continuous Learning:
  • Uphold professional ethics and confidentiality in all financial and personnel matters.
  • Stay current with Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) standards, policies, and continuing education requirements.

Additional Responsibilities:

Desired Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, Accounting, or related field.
  • Valid Ohio Business Manager license (per ORC §3319.03 and ODEW requirements).
  • Completion of state-mandated professional development and continuing education hours.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in school business, finance, or administrative operations, with at least three (3) in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of public budgeting, procurement, and fund accounting.

The Maritime Academy of Toledo (TMAT)

Position Title:  Data Specialist  
Location:  Toledo, Ohio
Employment Type:  Full-Time


Position Summary

The Data Specialist at The Maritime Academy of Toledo is responsible for the management, accuracy, analysis, and reporting of all school data, including EMIS, academic performance, attendance, special education, assessment, and state and federal accountability data. This role ensures that all data is accurate, compliant, audit-ready, and submitted on time in accordance with Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) requirements.

Serving as the school’s primary data compliance lead, the Data Specialist collaborates with instructional and administrative teams, supports state audits and reviews, and ensures data is used effectively to inform decision-making and school improvement efforts.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, validate, and submit all EMIS and state/federal data reports in compliance with ODEW timelines and requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment of data across all school systems, resolving errors and discrepancies prior to submission.
  • Serve as the primary data lead for state, federal, and sponsor audits, including EMIS audits, accountability reviews, and program monitoring.
  • Compile, organize, and submit audit-ready documentation, respond to data requests, and support corrective action processes as needed.
  • Monitor changes to data reporting laws, rules, and guidance; communicate requirements and deadlines clearly to staff.
  • Support and train departments in understanding, collecting, and submitting required data, including compliance-related data for programs such as Food and Nutrition (e.g., NSLP Administrative Reviews and ODEW Procurement Reviews).
  • Analyze academic, attendance, assessment, and program data to support instructional planning, leadership decisions, and reporting.

Desired Qualifications

Required:

The Maritime Academy of Toledo (TMAT)

Position Title:  Food Service Director
Location:  Toledo, Ohio


Position Summary

The Food Service Director provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and regulatory compliance for all school nutrition programs at The Maritime Academy of Toledo (TMAT). This role ensures the delivery of safe, nutritious, and appealing meals in full compliance with USDA, National School Lunch Program (NSLP), and Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) requirements.

The Food Service Director supervises food service staff, manages daily operations and budgets, ensures audit-ready compliance, and supports TMAT’s mission by promoting student wellness, equitable meal access, and nutrition education. This position requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and a high level of accountability.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise all food service operations, including breakfast, lunch, snack, and special meal programs.
  • Directly supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate food service staff; enforce standards for safety, sanitation, customer service, and professionalism.
  • Ensure full compliance with USDA, NSLP, ODEW, and health department regulations.
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain accurate, timely, and audit-ready documentation for NSLP Administrative Reviews, ODEW Procurement Reviews, and health inspections.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with ODEW, health departments, vendors, and regulatory agencies.

Position Summary

The College and Career Advisor at The Maritime Academy of Toledo (TMAT) supports students in planning for life after high school through individualized advising, career exploration, and postsecondary readiness programming. This role helps students connect academic experiences to college pathways, skilled trades, military options, maritime careers, and workforce credentials, ensuring every student graduates with a clear and achievable plan.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group advising focused on graduation planning, postsecondary pathways, and career readiness.
  • Assist students with college applications, FAFSA completion, scholarships, career credential programs, and workforce opportunities.
  • Monitor student progress toward graduation requirements, credit completion, and career pathway benchmarks.
  • Coordinate college visits, career exploration activities, job shadowing, internships, and industry partnerships, including maritime-related opportunities.
  • Support students in developing academic plans, career goals, and postsecondary transition plans.

Position Title:  CTE Maritime Transportation Teacher   
Location:  Toledo, Ohio

Position Summary

The CTE Maritime Transportation Teacher delivers instruction in maritime transport, navigation, seamanship, and related technical skills for high school students (grades 9–12). This role integrates classroom theory, simulation-based training, lab work, and industry-aligned practical experiences. The teacher will cultivate partnerships with local marine businesses, port authorities, and higher education institutions to support internships, certifications, and student pipelines into maritime careers.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver curriculum in topics such as navigation, ship operations, maritime safety, seamanship, cargo handling, tides, currents, and logistics.
  • Facilitate and supervise maritime simulator training (e.g. ship-handling, navigation scenarios) and incorporate simulations into instructional units.
  • Lead hands-on maritime labs or field projects, such as small-boat operations, chart plotting, environmental sampling, port logistics, or vessel maintenance.
  • Support students in obtaining industry-recognized credentials (e.g. STCW, safety, navigation officer licenses).
  • Coordinate with industry partners (ports, shipyards, Coast Guard, maritime firms) to arrange guest lectures, field visits, internship placements, and mentorships.
  • Maintain student records, performance data, and simulator logs; analyze outcomes to adjust instruction.
  • Serve on the CTE advisory council to review program goals, update curriculum, and maintain alignment with industry standards.

  • Completion of at least one Ohio OAE (Ohio Assessments for Educators) examination: the professional knowledge (pedagogical) exam and the content exam aligned with the CTE area.
  • Must satisfy Ohio BCI and FBI background checks.
  • Proper licensure or certification per Ohio’s rules for CTE instruction (i.e. in good standing with the Ohio Department of Education).

Position Title:  Social Studies Teacher (grades 6-8 or 9-12)

Position Summary

The Social Studies Teacher will deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in U.S. history, world history, civics, geography, and economics to students (grades 6–8 or 9-12). This full-time position embeds maritime themes such as Great Lakes trade, port history, naval service, and environmental policy into rigorous, real-world learning experiences. The teacher will also collaborate with CTE teams to integrate social studies into TMAT’s maritime pathways and simulator experiences.


Duties & Responsibilities

    • Design and teach courses aligned with the Ohio Learning Standards for social studies, including U.S. History, World History, Government, and Economics.
    • Integrate maritime-related content: Great Lakes commerce and cultural history, maritime law, environmental policy, and port operations.
    • Develop project–based learning units, for instance, mock legislative debates on maritime policy, mapping trade routes, or oral histories of port communities.
    • Coordinate with CTE, STEM, and English teachers to ensure interdisciplinary learning, such as incorporating simulator exercises into civics lessons or reading technical maritime reports.
    • Use formative and summative assessments, including simulations and policy portfolios, to track student progress and differentiate instruction.
    • Advise or oversee student-led clubs (model UN, civic engagement, or “Maritime Heritage Club”) and lead field experiences to local historical sites or port facilities.
    • Communicate with students, families, and school staff on academic progress, behavior, and pathway transitions.
    • Maintain accurate records in the school’s systems; participate in department planning, professional learning communities, and advisory councils.
    • Contribute to school-wide initiatives

Position Title:  Building Substitute Teacher
Location: Toledo, Ohio
Employment Type: Full-Time


Position Summary

The Building Substitute Teacher at The Maritime Academy of Toledo serves as a consistent and reliable educator, providing daily instructional coverage and classroom support throughout the school year. Assigned exclusively to TMAT, this position ensures academic continuity, supports student learning across grade levels, and upholds the school’s mission to foster academic excellence and maritime leadership. The Building Substitute may lead classes in any subject, assist with intervention or enrichment, and collaborate with school staff to maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.


Duties & Responsibilities

    • Provide daily classroom instruction based on lesson plans developed by the assigned teacher or department lead.
    • Maintain classroom order and create a positive, respectful learning environment aligned with TMAT’s values and behavioral expectations.
    • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, lunch areas, and during special events as needed.
    • Support academic and enrichment activities
    • Assist with student interventions, small-group instruction, and learning support where directed.
    • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and support staff to promote consistency in instructional delivery and classroom management.
